Join us on April 22nd from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. at the Oscoda Beach Park bandshell where we will clean up trash at the beach park and along the beach. If you are not an early riser, join us at the AuSable Trail park on Bissonette Road (Wurtsmith AF Base) the same day at 10:00. Or come out and join us for both! If you can’t make either of these events, we encourage you to do what you can in your neighborhood or wherever you may travel on Earth Day to make the world a cleaner place for us all.
Earth Day was created to show appreciation for the environment as well as provide support and promote awareness for the protection and preservation of our environment. It is celebrated annually on April 22nd and was first celebrated in 1970. We can all demonstrate our love for Mother Nature by promoting clean and green habits such as reducing, re-using, and recycling, using alternative methods of transportation such as carpooling, bicycling, walking, etc., and planting trees and/or flowers throughout our communities.
Earth Day also falls in the month of April, which is also National Stress Awareness Month. Being active outside and enjoying nature has been proven to reduce stress. The environment you encompass yourself with can have a positive or a negative impact on your mood. By surrounding yourself with clean air and the relaxing sounds of nature, you can alleviate stress and reduce blood pressure and muscle tension.
